I thought I would whip up a short AAR on this weekend. For those who don't know, I am custodian of one of the MSI "show kits" with brochures, banner & stand, etc. so I usually take setup/1st shift and last shift/take down. Chantilly was, I think the best show yet, at least for the couple of years I have been involved. To add, if MSI comes to a show in your area, you really should come on out and help. It's a wonderful experience talking to fellow enthusiasts. Most of the people who stopped to talk had never heard of MSI but usually got very supportive as they learned more.
Interesting thing (for me at least) was that at least 25-30% of the people we talked with were Maryland residents visiting America to get "nice things" which are not available in the Rights Free State. Several of the Virginia people offered sympathy, encouraging words, and even some donations. For the whole weekend, we got 40 new members and over $200 for the HQL lawsuit. All in all a good event, we'll be back!
In a huge decision authored by Judge O'Scannlain, a split panel of the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit has ruled that Hawaii's ban on open carry outside the home in that state violates the Second Amendment under any level of scrutiny. The decision, Young v. Hawaii, can be found here. The decision is very scholarly, carefully reasoned and a powerful statement that the Second Amendment is not a "second-class" right or a constitutional "orphan."
